Pellucid Psychiatry was founded by Ayanna Riley, PMHNP, an African American clinician and proud New Jersey native who is deeply committed to advancing equitable, compassionate mental health care.
Ayanna’s passion for psychiatry is rooted in both clinical excellence and lived understanding. She recognizes that in many minority communities, mental health concerns have long been misunderstood, minimized, or stigmatized. Cultural expectations to “be strong,” keep struggles private, or push through emotional pain often prevent individuals from seeking the care they deserve.
For many minorities, seeking mental health treatment can feel abnormal—as if asking for help means weakness, failure, or deviation from cultural norms. At Pellucid Psychiatry, we reframe that narrative. Sometimes, what feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar is not a sign that something is wrong—but rather a sign that growth, healing, and transformation are beginning.
Ayanna believes that breaking generational cycles of silence starts with safe, affirming spaces where patients feel seen, heard, and respected without needing to explain or defend their experiences. Her work is centered on breaking barriers, normalizing mental health care in minority communities, and helping patients reclaim clarity and confidence in their emotional well-being.

Yes! We offer secure Telehealth services, allowing you to receive care from the comfort and privacy of your home.
Not necessarily. Recommendations depend on thorough evaluation and shared decision-making. Medication is only prescribed when clinically appropriate.
Therapy is integrated when appropriate. However, we may refer you to a dedicated therapist if more frequent or specialized therapy is recommended.
To ensure we can accommodate all our patients and provide the best availability, we kindly ask for a 24-hour notice for cancellations. Failure to comply results in a cancellation fee.
We are honored that you are considering us for your mental health care and appreciate the trust it takes to take this first step. Your initial visit will be a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation lasting 60-90 minutes., allowing adequate time to understand your concerns, mental health history, current symptoms, and personal goals. Follow-up appointments are typically 30-45 minutes and are scheduled based on your personalized treatment plan and clinical needs.
